Last weekend a surprise snowstorm hit Beamish (along with much of the North East). John happened to be at St Helen’s and managed to get some nice pictures of it in its wintry wonder.
They’re interesting to compare with a painting of the building in the snow painted by Miss Lucy Turnbull of Normanby (a local school headmistress) and presented to Mr J W Ward for Christmas 1923. The painting is on loan to the Beamish Collection.
Inside the church is playing host to a choir from King’s Church Durham for the candlelit Christmas evenings, which is really bringing the building to life!
